LAVA enhances drift models

By blending radar and drifter data, it is possible to enhance oil slick drift forecasts. This is what TOSCA partners have observed thanks to LAVA. Customized for the TOSCA project, this software was tested with data gathered during observation off the coast of Toulon. Project partners were thus able to note differences in results when reconstructing the velocity field and correcting model fields, depending on whether drifters alone or drifters combined with radar were taken into account.

The following graphs illustrate the impact of the correction made to the model on transport of an object.
